Anthony Coates

Riverhead Town Supervisor

Anthony Coates has had a long, varied and successful career in the private sector and he has always coupled his business career with service to his community.

Tony is a FINRA licensed Investment Advisor and has served at the officer level of major financial institutions like Morgan Stanley, Fleet Financial and Smith Barney with specialty in Municipal finance and investment banking. Tony is also a New York licensed Insurance Advisor and served as Executive Assistant to the Chairman of the Board of the Bank of Los Angeles.

Tony began his career serving as a Legislative Aide to the Suffolk County Legislature at the ripe old age of 16. Tony went on to become New York's youngest weekly newspaper Publisher when he ran "The Record" which served Brookhaven and Huntington, NY and won the New York State Press Association Award as New York's Best Weekly Newspaper.

In the 1980's, Tony ran "The Fuel Buyers Group" which was cited by the Wall Street Journal and others as the nation's largest oil cooperative providing discount heating oil to consumers across the Northeast for his efforts Tony received an Award for "fusing entreprenurial spirit with social concern".

Tony served as a member of the Riverhead Business Improvement District [BID] where he helped bring fireworks, concerts and car shows to downtown Riverhead. Tony also served as the announcer for Riverhead's popular Cardboard Boat Races. Today, Tony also heads up the Online civic organization "Better Riverhead" dedicated to improving our Quality of Life.

Tony is the proud father of two daughters, Courtney, 23 and Jane 15...Tony and Cleo live on Roanoke Avenue with their dog "Joe" a retired Guide Dog for the Blind.
